Recent White Swan Joie De Review: "Let me start off by saying that after spending several nights at the White Swan Inn, I would not hesitate staying there again. But I wasn't certain when I arrived that I would feel that way. I think the other reviews accurately characterize the small inn quality of the hotel, but I just wasn't ready for the English country floral and chintz decor! I  tend to like things more streamlined--cozy, but not cluttered. We had a great room on the top floor at the back of the hotel, and it was incredibly quiet and big. The fireplace was a nice touch, particularly because it was really cold while we were in San Francisco. We didn't have breakfast there, but we did go down for "happy hour" and snacks, and that was nice. I think our favorite part of the hotel was the library room on the first floor with cushy chairs and a fireplace. My daughter hung out there and did her homework--it was really conducive to reading. The staff was all excellent. We had a problem with our toilet the first night, and it was promptly remedied. The location is very good (between Union Square and Chinatown), but up a bit of a hill. We found several great restaurants close by, and the neighborhood is perfectly safe with good access to public transportation. If you prefer a small, more personal hotel and you don't mind a country atmosphere, this is an excellent option for reasonably priced lodging."
