Recent Orchard Hotel Review: "My wife and I stayed here for a full week during Macworld Expo and it was a near perfect experience. I love that it's a smaller hotel, not a huge monolithic one. The staff is very attentive and always greet you when you enter or leave. They pride themselves in being a "green" hotel from the ground up, but I never felt like I was giving up any comfort or convenience for this. The bed was incredibly plush and luxurious to sleep in. The room was so well insulated we didn't even need to turn on the heat the whole time even though it got pretty chilly outside in January. They let you check out DVDs from the front desk for free to watch in your room on a quasi-surround system. For breakfast, the in-house restaurant offers an express option, for $5 you get a drink and one choice of pastry, plus there's always free fruit stocked at the front desk. There's also ala carte options so you don't have to spend the $18 for the "full" breakfast if you don't want to. The location was perfect, it was only a 10 minute walk to the Moscone Center, only 2 blocks from Union Square with shopping and dining galore, and it's right on the Powell St. cable car line which gets you to Fisherman's Wharf and other areas really easily (get the Muni passport that includes cable cars). I only had two negatives. The free wi-fi was so weak it was unusable in our room, but they did let me check out an ethernet cord to plug in at the desk which worked fine, I just would've liked to use the laptop in bed sometimes. Almost all hotels with wi-fi are this way, and I don't know why, just get a few more repeater antennas and it would be fine. The other was the in-hotel exercise room was tiny and only had cardio equipment, but they do offer a reduced rate pass to a nearby fitness club, which I did not use. All in all a wonderful hotel that has almost everything the big ones do at a much better price, and has a much lower impact on the environment to boot!"
