Recent Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Review: "We stayed here for 3 nights in a very comfortable room on the 7th floor overlooking the financial district. Our room evoked tasteful, superbly updated Old San Francisco. Woke up each AM to sunrise and twinkles from the Bank of America and Transamerica buildings. I walked down Powell to my medical meeting off Union Square every day. The MH's Nob Hill location proved very convenient and invigoratingly windy (you need a scarf year round if it's foggy); the aerobic-come-anaerobic walk back up made for great daily exercise. We enjoyed room service one night; it was prompt and delicious. We also ventured a Fri-nite lite meal and drinks at the Top of the Mark, a much-touted SF tradition and well worth it, fog or no. We were lucky enough to view a spectacular sunset. However we were disappointed the first night because we arrived late and were unable to order food from anywhere in the building. We had to resort to marginal goodies from the minibar. Horrors! What major SF hotel does not have 24 hr room servicer Also, be sure to leave your car at home or in the rental lot. Hotel parking is exorbitant in the downtown area, and SF is easy to navigate in a cab... if you tip the doorman well. Also, cable cars on California and Powell are right there. Hop on and go, but you'll need a pass. SF is a beautiful city, one of the most spectacular in the world. The MH has history and class and should be on everyone's bucket list--if only to experience a drink at the Top. City and bay views are compelling, to say the least."
