| The Hayes Valley Inn must have been built at the end of the 19th century. It is very well maintained and has the original layout: rooms with bed, sink and and dresser in each; two WCs and a bath, all in separate rooms, down the hall. You have to be able to climb a flight of stairs to get in and out.
It's walking distance from a lot of good restaurants and the opera, symphony, etc. There's an African import shop around the corner. I wish we'd had time to explore the neighborhood. However there can be a lot of noise outside at night.
The staff are really helpful, although only some of them are well-informed.
The adjacent parking lot (Tower Valet Parking) has a lower rate for hotel guests.
It's gay and every other kind of queer friendly.
We stayed only one night but would stay longer if we needed to be in SF overnight longer. |

| I had never stayed in a hotel like this one before with shared bathrooms & shower. Not the end of the world, but not my ideal situation. Great location and metered parking seemed to always be available, but make sure you stay on top of the meters because those SF parking tickets are EXPENSIVE. The people who work there are the nicest part of the stay, for sure. I would say it's a step or two above staying at a youth hostel. If you don't plan on staying there much, other than to shower & sleep, I'd say it's fine for the price. |

| First, I really like this hotel because of breakfast and tea time. You don't have to worry about the meal in the morning. For BF, orange juice, fruits, ham, cheese, coffee, waffles, bagles, danish pastries, muffins, and some other bread are available. At the teatime, there are some sweets and different kind of teas available, too. Uncomfortable things are No-internet (even though when I booked this hotel through here, "free internet access available"). They will charge $2.50 for 10 minutes. So I didn't use it. And the floor of the room I stayed (room305) had a tilt to the corridor. I also could not shut windows completely. But service is very nice, room is clean enough, shared-bathrooms are safe. I kind of enjoyed this "European style" hotel. Very nice location, not only for safety, but also accessibility. |

| The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room, though small, was very comfortable and remarkably quiet inspite of facing Franklin Street. The restroom down the hall was clean, though pretty tiny. We didn't use the shower as we saw someone's towels on the floor and that was enough to freak clean freaks out!! Breakfast was adequate though the room could be a little cleaner (lots of dirty dishes in the sink). Overall it was a great place to spend the night and very convenient (and economical) for an evening at the opera. |
