Recent Handlery Union Square Review: "We LOVE this place! We splashed out and booked the 'Premier King' room - as it was our wedding anniversary - such a beautiful room. We had booked a city-view room but we arrived very early & asked if we might store our bags somewhere. Instead, the front desk found us a room that was ready (it was a pool-view room) and we were allowed to check in at  11am! The hotel is a little bit of a maze - to find the lifts that would take us to our room we needed to follow a hallway and up a set of stairs to the pool, walk across the open-air pool area, through a set of doors before reaching our elevators. The elevators take forever to arrive but are super-fast once you're in them! Just make sure you dont get yourself jammed in the elevator doors - the sensors on them aren't very accurate & hubby got caught and they just wouldnt open again! Not the end of the world for us though. Just a bit hard when youre dragging heavy suitcases along. We got free WIFI with our room, which was great. It was reasonably fast & quite useful. The room itself has just been renovated so is lovely - the bathroom was a little old-looking & a bit pokey but still charming. I cant imagine though, how anyone could manage in a 'petite' room as our room really wasnt so huge.... The little balcony that we got with the 'pool view' room was also really nice. Its just large enough for two chairs & a table and it was great to sit out there & enjoy a drink before dinner. The location was fantastic. I highly recommend the Union Square area. We checked out Lombard Street, Fishermans Wharf etc and found that Union Square was just so much more homely & comfortable... and safe! We saw a free concert in the square the day we arrived, there is Macy's, Saks and Barneys right around the corner, and a DSW about 2 mins walk away (a dream for a shoe-fanatic like me). The trams are just around the corner, but the cheaper option is to just catch the bus - across the road from the hotel - its cheaper & less touristy. $2 will"
