Recent Chancellor Union Square Review: "This hotel was better than expected. When I was looking for a place to stay in SF, I had 3 criteria: 1) safe area where hotel located, 2) close to city transportation, and 3) value (to include available amenities). I found all 3 at the Chancellor. Because of the hotel's proximity to Union Square and cable car stop, the area was busy and not isolated. The cable cars stopped practically outside the door or you had to walk down half a block to get on. A block away you could catch electrified buses (trolley busesr). Perfect for a lone female traveller. Yes, the hotel is older (built in 1914) and stairs narrow, but the rooms have been upgraded and were more than adequate. Had there been 2 of us in the room, it probably would have been a tad tight. But for one person, perfect. High ceilings with fans. The tub in the bathroom was deep enough for a good long soak. The walk-in closet huge. There appear to be 10 rooms to a floor, for the most part. 8 of those are on the periphery and two, in the middle of the floor, but in actuality, they abute emergency escape balconies that facedsouth. On my floor, I got to see the roof of the building next door. No big deal since I wasn't going to be in the room all day anyway. From the front desk clerks to the restaurant staff, everyone was friendly, nice, and courteous. One minor gripe - wish the towels were softer. Before I made my hotel reservations, I spent several hours checking out hotel locations, prices, and reviews on various websites. The impressions left here, really helped me in choosing this hotel. Whether good or bad, reviews are important. Thanks to the reviews here, I made a great choice."
