Recent King George Review: "We were rather apprehensive when arriving at the King George Hotel after reading other reviews of small rooms. Arriving, however, the size was not a problem. Rooms were smaller than normal, but everything was functional and wonderfully clean. Ours was a 4-day vacation, so we spent most of our time out of the hotel and returned after dinner - the room was perfect for this.
We were first given a room on the street side but asked to change to avoid any possible noise issues. The help was very gracious with the change, and changed us (at our 2am arrival) with ease to another room which worked out wonderfully.
(Free wireless internet use was also wonderful!)
The hotel is old, but old in the "we took good care of this place and because of that everything still looks good and works" sense, NOT the "we just don't want to upgrade" sense.
The location is wonderful - Just two blocks from Union square, which was very convenient especially to take the cable cars down to the wharf. I would be careful walking around alone late at night in this area - but only as one would be careful of this in any city center.
Overall we were both highly pleased with this hotel, and found it a wonderful bargain, and great catch!!!
