Recent Fairmont San Review: "I have stayed at the Fairmont in San Francisco many times and am always thrilled as I approach the entrance for valet parking (however pricey... but so are all San Francisco properties), this is one spectacular hotel. Walking into the lobby is also breath taking in it's grandeur. I book the Signature room with the Bay view when ever possible for the most spectacular view of the city that I think one can have. These rooms are in the newer tower portion of the hotel.
This time, however, they didn't have the reserved room available when I arrived. I was put in one of the standard rooms in the older original building for the first night. They explained that the Chinese consulate general was staying there and that they had unexpected activity (there were police everywhere). They moved my bags for me to the reserved Signature room for the second of my two night stay. The front desk person was apologetic on the arrival night as was a different person on the second night when I checked to see what my new room number was. The second person offered to have a bottle of champagne sent to the room, but it never did come.
I spoke to the manager on duty about the cost difference between the room and since I had booked on Hotels.com she didn't know the price I'd paid. She did offer to refund my restaurant charges and I accepted that.
I will definitely stay at the Fairmont again."
