Recent Adante C-two Review: "Budget hotel - basic, but centrally located (between Union Square and Van Ness, edge of Tenderloin, near theatres). Right on a frequent 24-hour bus route. Several local markets for anything you've forgotten, lots of excellent eateries within a few blocks. To get here from SFO or Oakland, take BART to Montgomery and catch 38-Geary bus; Jones stop is right outside hotel - much cheaper (and probably faster!) than shuttles or taxis.
Didn't try parking; no-one drives in SF unless they have to - parking's nonexistent, and Muni is cheap and goes everywhere. (If you want to visit somewhere outside the city that's not on bus or BART routes, rent for the day - there are dozens of downtown rentals).
Room clean & tidy, serviced daily. No A/C, which is good (you won't need air conditioning in San Francisco, so don't pay for it!). We had street-side room; closed window cut out almost all street noise (but expect sirens, car alarms). Internet service (wired) was excellent. Bathroom was full bath/shower; showerhead was low (no need for showercap, but hair-washing can be tricky!). No wait for hot water.
Free breakfast is basic toast/coffee, ideal if you're going to walk some of SF's hills - and Lefty O'Doul's is just a few blocks downhill if you need something more filling. Don't plan on meals at the coffee shop - too many more interesting eateries all around!
Homeless no worse than anywhere else in SF, and better than Market St. or SOMA.
Downside: Not for children (too small, too close to core Tenderloin, busy street); probably not for folks who can't sleep with street noise (who shouldn't be staying in a city anyway!), or for wheelchair/walker-bound. Probably not for business travellers, unless your budget is tight.
Upside: Excellent for exploring SF on a budget. And we loved the murals!"

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.
